Οι βιβλιοθηκονόμοι καλούνται να αναλάβουν νέους ρόλους όπως αυτό του μέντορα και του εκπαιδευτή με απώτερο σκοπό την υποστήριξη της έρευνας και την αποτελεσματική αξιοποίηση των πηγών από τον τελικό χρήστη.Ο θεματικός βιβλιοθηκονόμος στη Βιβλιοθήκη του Τεχνολογικού Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου (ΒΤΠ) προσφέρει υπηρεσίες στην ακαδημαϊκή κοινότητα βασισμένος στη φιλοσοφία του μοντέλου παροχής υπηρεσιών σε διάφορα επίπεδα (tiered service) σύμφωνα με τη δυσκολία και την περιπλοκότητα του ερωτήματος. Στο πλαίσιο συμμετοχής της Βιβλιοθήκης στην εκπαιδευτική διαδικασία και τη δια βίου μάθηση και με στόχο τη δημιουργία αυτόνομων χρηστών αξιοποιούνται διάφορα κανάλια επικοινωνίας. Με ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στην επίτευξη αμφίδρομης επικοινωνίας με την ακαδημαϊκή κοινότητα έχει δημιουργηθεί η υπηρεσία με το σλόγκαν «Ρώτα τον βιβλιοθηκονόμο σου» η οποία λειτουργεί σε επίπεδο επικοινωνίας πρόσωπο με πρόσωπο σε φυσικό χώρο αλλά και έξω από τα όρια του φυσικού χώρου με τη χρήση των νέων μέσων.Η εργασία αυτή παρουσιάζει την υλοποίηση του μοντέλου του θεματικού βιβλιοθηκονόμου στη ΒΤΠ σε ένα μεταβατικό στάδιο προς επίτευξη του ιδεατού. Αρχικά, παρουσιάζονται τα στάδια εφαρμογής της υπηρεσίας «Ρώτα τον βιβλιοθηκονόμο σου» και οι ενέργειες των θεματικών βιβλιοθηκονόμων ώστε να εδραιωθεί ο ρόλος τους στην ακαδημαϊκή κοινότητα και να αξιοποιηθούν στον μέγιστο βαθμό. Στη συνέχεια παρουσιάζονται τα αποτελέσματα της έρευνας ικανοποίησης χρηστών ως προς την ποιότητα των παρεχόμενων υπηρεσιών, την εξοικείωση τους με τον θεματικό βιβλιοθηκονόμο και τις προσδοκίες τους από αυτόν. Institutional repositories are the means for libraries to provide access to the research product of the academic community and also to promote open access. The publication of the research results in open access journals assists in the global diffusion of this information. The open access movement is becoming very popular among the academic institutions. Today more than 320 organizations have signed the Berlin declaration on Open Access. The Library and Information Services at the Cyprus University of Technology is one of these organizations. By signing this declaration the University commits to promote and support Open Access encouraging the researchers to publish their work based on the Open Access policies. The Library has developed the first institutional repository in Cyprus, Ktisis. This paper briefly describes the implementation process of Ktisis and continues to examine the set of activities used in the strategic plan of Ktisis, including the definition of open access policies. http://ktisis.cut.ac.cy/handle/10488/5631 Title: Promoting Open Access at the Cyprus University of Technology: survey results<br/><br/>Authors: Giannoulakis, Stamatios; Zervas, Marios; Artemi, Petros<br/><br/>Abstract: Today the Open Access movement gains more and more followers. The Library and Information Services at the Cyprus University of Technology has defined Open Access as one of its main strategies. Considering the current economic crisis, Open Access appears to be a solution to the reduction of funds at the academic institutions. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the perception and reaction of the academic community of the Cyprus University of Technology towards Open Access. The Library and Information Services conducted a survey in order to examine the familiarity of the academic community with Open Access and to define any difficulties that they find.The survey results showed that the academic community is generally aware of the Open Access movement, but a lot of effort and work has to be done in order to make the academic community to trust and use Open Access. The survey also showed that Ktisis, the institutional repository of the Cyprus University of Technology, is not being used effectively by the academics. It was proved that the deposits in Ktisis do not reach the desired level and the reason is that the academic community is not aware of its existence. Therefore the academic community has to be convinced to prefer Open Access publishers for the deposit of their academic publications instead of commercial publishers and to retain sufficient rights adopting the SPARC addendum. Institutional repositories are now clearly recognized as essential infrastructure in the digital world. An institutional repository is a means for the institutions to manage the product of their academic research and to increase accessibility to that product. Generally, institutional repository development is still in the process of establishing guiding principles and best practices, through established cases which can be used to learn development options and risks. This paper begins with a brief description of the implementation process of Ktisis, the open access institutional repository of the Cyprus University of Technology, and continues to describe the set of activities used in the strategic plan of Ktisis. Among those activities was the definition of the promotional plan, the engagement in the international community and the definition of the Ktisis policy of use.
