Dr. Dimitra L. Milioni graduated from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.), Greece in 1998 and received her Ph.D. in 2006 from the same university. Since 2013, she is Assistant Professor of Media Studies at the Department of Communication and Internet Studies, Cyprus University of Technology. Her current research interests lie in the fields of new and alternative media, internet politics, online communities, and social movements. Dr. Milioni is a member of the European Communication Research and Education Organization (ECREA), the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) and the Hellenic Political Science Association. She is the project manager of the research project “World Internet Project Cyprus” (2009-2012), which investigates the impact of the internet and new media on multiple aspects of the social and political life in Cyprus. Since 2010, she represents Cyprus in the international research network “Worlds of Journalism Study (WJS)”, which focuses on the international comparative study of journalism cultures. Since 2011, she is a researcher in the study “ Violence and Delinquency in the Cypriot Television and the Role of the Cyprus Radio Television Authority”, currently implemented in the Department of Communication and Internet Studies. She was the principal investigator of the Research Project “Media & the Public Sphere: Alternative and New Media for Improving Education of Future Journalists” (2008-2009), funded by the Research Committee of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. Also, she participated in the research project “Comparative European New Media and Elections Project” (CENMEP), which focused on the relationship between political parties and new media in election campaigns (Project Coordinator: M.
