Dr Andreas Anayiotos is a Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Materials Science and Engineering. He studied Aerospace Engineering at Boston University and got his MS and PhD from Georgia Institute of Technology (USA) also in Aerospace Engineering. He has taught at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) from 1991-2007 and has been the director of the Biofluids and Echocardiography lab at UAB. He has received funding from the Whitaker Foundation, National Institutes of Health and the Biomedical Device Industry in the US. He has established and is the director of the Biomechanics and Living Systems Analysis Laboratory at the Cyprus University of Technology since 2007. The lab is funded by the Research Promotion Foundation (Cyprus), the EU FP7 and EUROSTARS. Professor Anayiotos’ area of expertise is: Experimental and computational cardiovascular modeling, Image based computational hemodynamics, Ultrasound & Magnetic resonance imaging techniques, Novel Imaging techniques, Novel cardiovascular implants, devices and biomaterials and drug delivery. He has published more than 100 peer reviewed journal publications and articles in conference proceedings and has developed numerous courses in Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering. Professor Anayiotos has been an organizer and chairman of numerous technical sessions, panel discussions and educational sessions in international conferences such as the Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition and the Summer Bioengineering Conferences both sponsored by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He is an Associate Editor in the Annals of Biomedical Enginering (Official Journal of the Biomedical Engineering Society USA) and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (Official Journal of the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology). He is a reviewer in numerous international journals. He has been an expert evaluator in multiple panels and study sections in Bioengineering for the European Union, the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation (US) since 1999. He has provided consulting services to numerous cardiovascular implant and device manufacturers. The graduates of his laboratory are currently employed at Emory University, ΝASA Glenn Research Center, Boston Scientific Corporation, Baxter Medical Corporation, Cordis Inc (Johnson and Johnson) and other organizations in the US.
