Abstract
1. To investigate and accurately define the ground thermal properties in Cyprus. These properties are the thermal conductivity of the various ground layers, the specific gravity, density and moisture content. Different kinds of geological structures will be investigated up to a depth of about 100m, in representative sites. 2. The overall thermal conductivity of the ground obtained in six boreholes (RPF project 2008-2010) by applying the thermal response test and the line source model will be compared with an analytical method that will use the results of this project and draw conclusions. 3. Artificial neural networks will be used for the generation of graphs that will predict in a scientific way the thermal properties in areas that will not be examined in this project and will be used as tools for the plotting of iso- layers for Cyprus. 4. Iso-layer lines will be drawn and all thermal data needed by engineers for efficient designing of ground thermal systems will be visualized. The analysis and visualization on a map of Cyprus will be achieved using a Geographic Information System (GIS). Finally, by using a simulation program the effect of the ground properties on the temperature of the earth-heat exchangers will be investigated and the variation of the heat pump efficiencies will be demonstrated.
